On March 5th, 2006, Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores celebrated 21 years of existence. In 1985 the plant was founded through the association among Petrobras, Akzo Nobel and Oxiteno. The excellence in services and products, offered to FCC S.A.’s customers, is a result of a rich history of hard work, innovation and technological development, which are present in the daily activities of the company.
The achieving and adoption of best practices in all of FCC S.A.’s processes and the incessant research are at the core of all the Plant’s activities and, throughout the years, have represented the very culture of its work force. This pioneering, determined and daring way of doing business has made Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores S.A. the Latin American FCC market leader and inspires us to move to even higher levels and achieve greater victories.
On the anniversary of Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores, Petrobras S.A. and Albemarle Catalysts would like to reiterate their commitment to quality and to cooperation in servicing customers and to express their gratitute for the confidence the market places in FCC S.A. brand.
The following are some milestones in FCC S.A.’s history:
1985 – engineers assess the technical and financial feasibility of establishing a catalyst plant and choose the Industrial District of Santa Cruz (RJ) as the most advantageous site for the new plant.
1986 – plant construction begins
1988 – plant construction is concluded
1989 – operations begin (April) with the processing of crude catalyst imported from Holland. In May, Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores is officially inaugurated
1989 – the first catalyst batch produced by FCC S.A is delivered. In December of the same year, the first 100% Brazilian-made catalyst is produced.
1995 - the plant is certified to ISO 9001 (Quality) by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI)
2002 – the plant is certified to OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) and ISO14001 (Environment) by BVQI. The plant is also re-certified to ISO 9001 (2000)
2004 – the plant is certified under the Integrated Management System (SGI) by BVQI
2005 – the Topaz project is concluded (to increase production capacity and introduce new catalyst production technology)
Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores S.A. is an international technology company that produces and provides solutions in catalysts and additives for the oil refinning industry.
As a joint venture, FCC S.A. joins the tradition and know-how of two world giants of the oil and petrochemical areas – Petrobras and Albemarle Corporation.
