The use of good practices in Project Management was fruitful for FCC SA. A proof of that is the external acknowledgement of the development of the productive capacity expansion project and the introduction of the Topaz catalyzer technology. In August, the Manager of Engineering, Control and Optimization Processes, Shirley Rocha, and Engineer Henrique Campello used the “Topaz Entries” case as a final work in the Master in Project Management (MPM) course and were appointed as one of the three finalists groups for the Projects Management Value Award. The specialized course is a partnership between SENAI/FIRJAN-RJ and PMI-Rio (Project Management Institute –Rio de Janeiro Chapter).
The work of FCC S.A. professionals, which discussed the planning and management of scope, period, human resources and risks of the Topaz Project obtained the maximum grade from the MPM evaluators. The Topaz Project is one of the greatest and most challenging corporate projects in 20 years of the plant operation and the good result of the team reflects the dimension and the value of adequate planning and management works regarding this challenge, based on the good practices recommended by the PMI.
Partnership with PMI-Rio
In 2004, FCC S.A. initiated the qualification works of its team in new areas of Project Management knowledge, disseminated throughout the world by PMI. The Projects Management Institute is a non-profit organization created in 1969 in the USA with the purpose of spreading knowledge and providing support to the application of techniques and standards related to the topic.
In 35 years of existence, PMI expanded its principles through various countries and nowadays counts on the participation of more than 125 thousand members. The institution stimulates the creation of information networks and interchange between professionals around the world and, in the Rio de Janeiro Chapter alone, it has circa 200 members.
In April this year the plant signed a Mutual Cooperation Agreement with the PMI-Rio. With the signature of the agreement and the collective membership of 16 company employees – a historical adhesion in the course of this chapter – Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores undertakes to adopt the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) as a reference, internally informing on the best Project Management practices, under the guidelines and support of the Institute.
