FCC S/A converts Income Tax into Social Work

07/07/2005

The Brazilian Government’s Pro-Childhood Fund allows public and private companies to invest up to 1% of their due income tax in contributions to the Childhood & Adolescence Fund (FIA). This month, by visiting the facilities of the Antares Centre of Integrated Activities (an FIA unit located in Santa Cruz, RJ), Fabrica Carioca de Catalisadores was able to verify the benefits from direct entrepreneurship within social institutions.

By late 2004, we had given donations to CAI Bernhard Kaden, which shelters 30 children aged 0 to 6, and attends to 300 minors between 7 to 18 years of age through its other programs. This particular FIA unit has received beds, mattresses, VCRs, TVs, freezers, refrigerators, sound systems, cupboards, drinking fountains, ceiling fans and game tables. Wheelchairs were also donated to an FIA unit in Niteroi, which attends to children suffering from cerebral palsy, a total of nearly R$27,000 in products.

Apart from non-pecuniary donations, FCC S/A used its resources from fiscal incentives to donate R$22,000 in cash to the Foundation for Childhood & Adolescence of the City of Itaguaí, which attends to the deprived population in its neighbourhood. Aiming at workforce awareness, the company scheduled a lecture this month to explain the possibility of converting up to 6% of individuals’ income taxes into social benefits. The objective here is to foster, among plant employees and third parties, the spirit of citizenship and volunteerism.
